Fitted cabinetry and bespoke hardwood furniture, designed and made by Lewis at his workshop in Cowbridge. Kitchens, wardrobes, library bookcases all made to measure. Tables and benches made of sustainably-sourced and locally-grown timbers.

The name

Felled

Working with local timber mills, each piece of furniture is made of responsibly-sourced timber, milled and dried in South Wales. Time is spent carefully selecting the timber for each piece, looking out for grain density as well as splits and knots. Nature isn’t perfect, and these imperfections are always considered in the design - stabilised when necessary and celebrated when appropriate.

Fitted

The cabinetry is made to measure using a mixture of sheet material and solid timber. Every cabinet is discussed and designed to meet the client’s needs. Measurements are taken, all awkward angles are noted and drawn up on CAD. The work is then handmade in the workshop and fitted on site by the same people who designed and made it.

About

About

Felled & Fitted was set up by Lewis, who grew up in Caerphilly and studied Three Dimensional Design at Loughborough University. Before returning to South Wales he worked as a cabinet maker in London, making kitchens, libraries and fitted furniture for private homes and commercial settings.

The workshop is based in Cowbridge, in the Vale of Glamorgan. Each project is looked after from start to finish - from the first conversation and CAD drawings through to the making and fitting.

How a commission works

From first conversation to fitting

One point of contact throughout, and a clear plan agreed before any timber is cut.

  1. 1

    Conversation

Get in touch about the room or the piece you have in mind. A phone call and a few photos are usually enough to talk through ideas, timber and budget.

  2. 2

    Site visit

For fitted work the space is measured in person. Walls, floors, pipes and sockets are all noted so the design works around them.

  3. 3

    Drawings & quote

The design is drawn up on CAD with a detailed quote, and adjusted until it is right.

  4. 4

    Making

Everything is handmade in the Cowbridge workshop, using local timber wherever the design allows.

  5. 5

    Fitting

Fitted on site by the same people who made it. Every door, drawer and shelf is checked before handover.
